What a pleasure to find Lucy, Jacques and others! Too bad this is the final book in the series ... The plot of this episode is perhaps less exciting than the previous two (recall that in Volume 2 , we followed Lucie war photographer during the Italian campaign and in the third Jacques was parachuted into France to make assistance to the Resistance), but that's okay because now stands after the War, and the dust settles ... Dust, in the case said, will end as Lucia Asbestos including during the famous strike of workers in asbestos! Workers demanding better working conditions, especially in regard to release into the atmosphere of the asbestos dust that poisoned the entire city. The company did not transfer, and the Duplessis government is on his side. Exploitation of resources without regard to the concerns of the population in an environmental perspective, government is leaving the field free to the industry ... Do not you remember anything? "Like what the more things change the more they stay the same (or almost, because I do not think even when we are headed for a disaster comparable to that of asbestos mines in forties, at least I hope)! Well, it was the political part of our discussion back on topic!
The main topic of this last volume is the reintegration into society after the war. Either because they were nightmarish scenes witnessed (Jacinthe the ambulance), have experienced a personal tragedy (Jacques), or that tries to relegate to a traditional role of wife and mother after they had the opportunity to exercise a profession (Lucia), the return to "normal" life is not without difficulties!
As always, Maryse Rouy writing is clear and solid documentation. And if I found the end of the novel a bit predictable, it is nevertheless a perfectly satisfying ending to this excellent series history!
