The Chateau de Gilly-les-Citeaux is a castle of the fourteenth century and seventeenth-century park of 3 hectares, moats, a French garden in Gilly-les-Citeaux in Côte-d'Or in Burgundy .
History.
Originally a Benedictine Priory in cutting Germain, bishop of Paris, Gilly was much later sold to the Cistercians neighbors. In the sixteenth century, Nicolas Boucherat II, 51st abbot of Citeaux, decided to make a country house. Its successor in 1625, Pierre de Nivelle continued beautification work started, we owe him the emblem of the "castle of Gilly" which was among his own arms. It does not transform the utility rooms such kitchen and pantry who kept their discipline and Cistercian.
In 1789 the French Revolution arrived and changed the course of things, May 14, 1790, the properties of the Cistercian monks were declared national property. Several owners succeeded, setting up of farmers and workers in the abbey until the department of Cote d'Or bought it to turn it into a castle-theater Gilly-les-Citeaux, in January 1978 and classified monument in May 1978.
In December 1987, Rene and Simonne Traversac buy the house & perform work to restore it and transform it into comfortable and luxurious hotel, opened in September 1988.
Facing the castle, the garden has the French original was reproduced in all the purity of its geometric lines, around the circular pool and its fountain ...
